The project will be implemented by Ukrainian Women’s Fund, in collaboration with two other Ukrainian organizations—International Renaissance Foundation (IRF) and La Strada-Ukraine (LSU). IRF will provide expertise on marginalized groups and policy development and LSU will provide resources on combating gender based and domestic violence. The project will provide a combination of capacity building, grant funding, and other strategic support to WROs, coalitions of WROs, and individual activists within the women’s movement. Activities will be implemented over five years, from 2018 to 2023, in all regions of the country, with special emphasis on those areas experiencing or affected by ongoing military conflict.
The decision on the project was announced publicly today during Minister of International Development and La Francophonie of Canada Marie-Claude Bibeau meeting with women’s rights organizations and media. Many participants of the meeting commented that not only the largest initiative with Ukrainian women’s organizations to date but also they way how the decision was announced was in line with feminist foreign assistance policy – open, transparent, with engagement of stakeholders. There were more than 30 media present at the event so it was a great way to attract media attention to women’s rights and gender equality in Ukraine.
